TAHAR RAHIM AS THE GAELIC LEADER IN "THE EAGLE OF THE NINTH"

Young actor Tahar Rahim (who became more popular recently with his lead role in Jacques Audiard's "The Prophet", the Grand Prix winner of last spring's Cannes International Film Festival and France's official submission for the Academy Awards) has just joined the cast of Roman epic "The Eagle of the Ninth" which is currently shooting in Hungary. Rahim will portray the Gaelic-speaking Seal Prince, the fearsome leader of a band of warriors who pursue Marcus (Channing Tatum) and Esca (Jamie Bell) through the highlands when accompanied only by his British slave Esca Marcus sets out across Hadrian's Wall into the uncharted highlands of Caledonia - to confront its savage tribes and retrieve the lost legion's golden emblem, the Eagle of the Ninth. Donald Sutherland portrays Marcus' uncle Aquila, who has retired in Britain while Mark Strong is cast as Guern, an ex-soldier who holds crucial information about the Ninth.

  1. I'm not entirely sure why they (producers) decided on making another Roman-British film. And not one, but two new movies: "The Eagle of the Ninth" and "Centurion". This sub-genre doesn't seem that popular. After all, "King Arthur" and "The Last Legion" enjoyed moderate to little success. There's little chance that any one of these upcoming movies could make matters different in this sub-genre.

I on the other hand intend to see both Eagle and Centurion. I don't expect much from any of those two, but I'm still interested in Roman-British period.

  2. I just can't wait to see the first pics from EAGLE OF THE NINTH, since we've already seen beautiful photos of Fassbender and Olga from CENTURION. I guess we should expect them quite soon.

  3. We should, since they've already started shooting. I for one hope it's not gonna be "black and white" movie. :) (Like "Eagle" is by the looks of it.)

  4. Maybe we should sneak into the sets, since they're just a few miles away from Vojvodina :) and take a peek ourselves :))
