  1. This movie has impressive cast. Too bad those are all supporting roles, since Percy Jackson is children/young_teenagers movie. :)

I don't think this film(s) will replace Harry Potter series. Perhaps it will be favored among younger viewers, but it would be foolish for producers to think they could repeat Harry Potter's success. Adults will not watch this is such great numbers like they did (for who knows what reasons) with Harry Potter.

  2. The teaser looks good and it also has cool special effects. I just hope they don't ruin the books.

  3. When I come to think about it I don't think any similar story could replace "Harry Plopper", just like I don't think that any other epic could replace LOTR. You need something with fresh idea to make legendary success like these to sagas did.
STAR WARS, HARRY, LOTR - they all had something different, something that took people's breaths away with innovative stories or innovative visuals. That's why I think AVATAR stands a chance of making such a success.

  4. True... Sadly, more then often, movie producers think they can replace idea and hard work with projects that copy other successful films and ideas.

I haven't read Percy Jackson and the Olympians, but I'm looking forward to its movie debut. It could be interesting to see somewhat modernised Greek gods.

  5. I just hope that too many upcoming Greek gods and mythology projects won't ruin it all for the genre, since it has really been long since we've seen any of that in films.

  6. What I don't understand is why everything has to be mesured against Harry Potter. I have read the books and loved them, I'm more concerned about them not following the book than coppying Harry Potter.

  7. Marko Belsak-

over all, I would suggest these books to older audiences than Harry Potter. Next time, read the book first.

  8. we'll it's not us who measure it comparing to Harry Plopper but the studio. They want it to replace the popular franchise (in respect to the box office success) after Harry Plopper is finished.

Marko said it's a teenage/kids movie because the main characters is a kid, and I also don't think that most adults would go crazy for this movie.

  9. True. I haven't read the books. :) But I said it looks interesting to me. I don't have a problem with juvenile media. After all, I did watch Avatar: The Last Airbender and Wolverine and the X-Men cartoons recently. And I liked them, even as I recognised them for what they really were. However, I have trouble with adult people who are fascinated by Harry Potter, and at the same time think some other adult people (not them) should stay away from the things they themselves consider juvenile.

As Dezmond said, for us who haven't read the books, this may or may not seem juvenile or Harry_Potter-like. We only know what they tell (market to) us, and we see from trailer. We could read the books themselves, but it would take to much of our time.

So, between marketing push for Percy as Harry Potter's replacement (whom I don't particularly like), and trailer (which I did like), I chose to be interested in this.
In retrospect, that would imply that I don't really consider Percy as same as Harry Potter, wouldn't it?
