JOHN WOO DOING MARCO POLO?

It seems that after the success of his Chinese epic "Red Cliff" (which is about to be released in the USA), director John Woo has found himself a new epic project. In an interview for "Movieline" he has revealed his plans to do new, epic adaptation of "Marco Polo" story. He said that he was particularly interested in famous explorer's relationship with Kublai Khan whose emissary he was throughout Asia. Since Woo moved back to China few years ago, it's not quite clear whose project will this be (apparently it will be in English language), but another epic is always welcomed, if you ask me.

  1. This will probably be the biggest history epic in a near future. Way bigger than new Robin Hood, or any other similar movie that I've heard of being planned.
That is of course, if "Western" (USA) financing and distribution decides to back it up. Otherwise it could still be great (better than "Western" epics) but relatively unknown in USA (and other "Western" countries).

I for one would be very interested to see a Marco Polo epic.

  2. As far as I've got it after writing this exclusive news :) it is supposed to be American project (with their studio) so there should be enough money. Woo wants to do two of his next projects back in the USA.

  3. I wasn't really worried about lack of money for this project. East Asian studios seemed quite capable of filming epics of this scale.
But I'm glad about USA production because of English language and possibility of famous western stars/actors.

  4. yep, when I come to think about it, it's probably cheaper shooting the same movie with an Asian studio than with American one :) We at the Balkans know that best :PP
