NEW MEDITERRANEAN PERIOD SET TV SERIES BASED ON PETER NICHOLS' 'THE ROCKS' AND ELENA FERRANTE'S 'MY BRILLIANT FRIEND' NOVELS

  PETER NICHOLS' 'THE ROCKS'
TOM HARPER TO ADAPT INTO TELEVISION SERIES
While we wait for the second season of The Durrells to begin at British ITV, two new Mediterranean set mini series are to enter production. Tom Harper, who turned the depths of War And Peace into lemonade last year, is to direct small screen adaptation of Peter Nichols' best seller THE ROCKS for Entertainment One!
Published in 2015, it is set on the Mediterranean island of Mallorca, a love story and a mystery, told in reverse. It begins in the present day with the death of an older married couple who fall from one of the island’s many cliffs after an argument. The story then rewinds through time following the intertwined lives of the duo and their families over the course of half a century.

   'MY BRILLIANT FRIEND' SAGA
BECOMES RAI & HBO TV SERIES
Italian broadcaster RAI, that brought us Medici: Masters of Florence last year, has teamed up with HBO on eight part series MY BRILLIANT FRIEND  based on the best selling book by Elena Ferrante. It will be shot in Italian with English subs for USA.
MY BRILLIANT FRIEND is a story about the strength of female friendship. When the most important friend in her life seems to have disappeared without a trace, Elena Greco, a now elderly woman immersed in a house full of books, turns on her computer and starts writing the story of their friendship. She met Raffaella Cerullo, whom she has always called Lila, in primary school in 1950. Set in a dangerous and fascinating Naples, their story thus begins and goes on to cover over 60 years of their lives, trying to describe the mystery of Lila, Elena’s brilliant friend and, in a way,  her worst enemy.

  1. My Brilliant Friend sounds like an interesting series. Girl friendships, especially ones that span that many years, can be rewarding, but definitely complicated at times.

    1. I've never succeeded in keeping a friendship that long :( The longest was about ten years before they start getting on me nerves

    4. I've only had one last that long, wish my bestie of 20 years. We started off seriously hating each other, almost coming to blows a few times before we realized we were just meant to be friends. I'd stab someone in the neck if they ever hurt her now. We don't see each other all the time, date night once a month with our hubs and beach days here and there in the summer. Maybe the key to a lasting friendship is to space it out so you don't have the chance to annoy each other?

    5. that could be the recipe :) Although, I do wish I had a best friend with whom I'd share life on a daily basis.

  2. My Brilliant friend sounds intriguing. The Rocks is quite a mean title. That old couple literally hit those with this story. Ouch.

  3. Oh, I'm so glad to see something set in Mallorca. What a nice change from all those long-ago tales of kings and queens set in chilly Great Britain.
